I was talking to someone the other day, well talking is a bit of a nicer term than what was really going on. We were "discussing" things and they let me know they were a theologian and knew things.
It occurred to me that we have a lot of folks who have a head knowledge but not the heart knowledge necessary to be a true child of God.
If you watch things on tv like the finding of Noah's ark or some of the other tv specials that are searching for the truth of God and the history of the Bible, notice they use theologians, doctors of theologies with phd's and advanced degrees. You can tell they do not believe the Word of God because they do not believe that these things happened, they are unsure of whether or not it really happened. They prefer to explain away things instead of understanding that they actually happened.
God said it, that settled it.
It does not have to have you believe it for it to be true. The Word is true whether you believe it or not.
They do not use men of God who believe it happened with all their heart soul and mind. They go after the scholars with head knowledge but no true heart for Christ.
I am finding more and more that the more "educated" people are the farther they have moved away from God and more into the intelligentsia realm. Christianity is not defined nor explained by logic, nor is it easy to break it down by human understanding.
The very thought of God coming to earth and dying for us defies all human logic, we can not understand for we would never do it.
The thought of resurrection is also an idea that is alien to our way of thinking.
God sharing His power with us through the Holy Spirit? That is truly out of our realm of comprehension.
This is why God must call us, God must lead us, God must instruct us or we would never find Him. We would never seek Him. God must do all the work or we would accept the credit in and of ourselves.
When our heads can not wrap themselves around these ideas, that is when our heart knowledge kicks in. For none of this is possible without faith.
There are those who put on shows and entertain in the "power" of the spirit but they have no true heart knowledge. For true heart knowledge of Christ will keep you from showboating, will keep you from putting your name anywhere near the work of God.
For in and of God is the only way to any success of a true and lasting nature.
If God doesn't have top billing and all the credit, it is not of Him.
If His Word is not put forth as The Word, if His standards are not preached as the Standards, then it is not of Him.
Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Act 8:10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
Act 8:11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Act 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Simon had fooled the people, he had tricked them into thinking he was something. He used parlor tricks to make them think he was a man of God.
Then when he met true men of God something happened.
He believed.
He saw true miracles performed by the true men of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
He had put on shows, he had convinced them that he was something. He had a head knowledge of God but had no true idea of Who or What God is.
Then when he saw their miracles and signs he fully understood true power.
However, Simon didn't truly get the altruism. He didn't understand the Power of God freely given unto all men that ask and seek. He didn't understand that all the disciples and apostles of Christ did not care about their stations, their welfare, their money. They were solely interested in promoting Christ and His love, His Sacrifice for all mankind.
He didn't understand because he himself was not like that, therefore he could not fathom the faith necessary, the heart necessary. the total lack of self necessary.
Simon the sorcerer had a head knowledge but he had not fully developed a heart knowledge. He believed and was baptized but he had not fully experienced yet the full understanding of faith.
Act 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Act 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
Act 8:20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Act 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
Act 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
Act 8:23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
Act 8:24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
Simon thought the laying on of hands was through the power of the men, he had not quite understood that it is all done through the power of Christ.
He was still carnally thinking that he could buy the power. He was thinking that it was available through ways other than total and complete surrender to a God who is a generous God if we but follow His Word.
He had not developed faith yet, he was still thinking through his wallet, his power, his reputation. He was not thinking of God's glory.
Please note that I am slow to condemn him in this. For he was saved, he believed. He just spoke in ignorance. He was not a mature christian, he was a man who spoke hastily wanting to keep his reputation, his status intact. He failed to grasp that God and His Glory are why we do what we do. Not our own reputation, not our own status.
He saw his status falling away, he saw his power fading. Then when he saw the laying on of hands he saw a way to instantly regain his place.
Peter saw his intent, his reasoning. He saw the bitterness of failure and inadequacy, Peter saw through the Spirit that this man wanted to maintain his eminence, his reputation, to add to his money pile.
Peter saw and rebuked the intent as well as the man.
For we in and of ourselves are worthy of nothing other than death.
It is only through Christ and His Redeeming work on the cross that we have any hope, any faith, and future.
We do not have any power, whether over death, or over sin, or over temptation, or over satan and his minions, we can do nothing except we do it in the name of Christ.
Simon had a head knowledge. He did not have a heart knowledge.
You can read the bible, you can teach "theology" without a heart knowledge, but you will never teach Christ who is the reason for the Bible unless you have a heart knowledge.
You will do more damage than good if you do not have a heart knowledge. For God is not in the head or the logic, or the intelligence.
God is in the heart. God is in the soul. God can not be defined through the head, but He can be understood through the heart.
Psa_119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Psa_119:73 JOD. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
Psa_119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
Psa_119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
David understood that understanding comes from God and His Word.
There must be a heart knowledge to complement the head knowledge or there is no knowledge.
You can not know God and His Word if you do not have a heart knowledge.
The heart knowledge comes from God, it comes from faith and belief. You can not know who God is unless He reveals Himself unto you.
If you seek God and can not find Him, can not believe on Him, can not take His Word at face value then you have not been called to Him.
If you can not believe His Words, then you are not of Him.
If you truly want to see God, To know God, then ask Him, earnestly and sincerely. He will reveal Himself to those who honestly seek His face.
If God's Word is not alive to you, in you, then ask Him to make it real. Reading His Word with the Holy Light of the Spirit will open up whole new roads and avenues.
A head knowledge is worthless unless you have a heart knowledge of God.
Christ Jesus didn't come to those who knew of God, He came for those who wanted to know God.
Jesus walked among the people and those that wanted to know Him, to eat with Him, He made Himself available to.
He was also available to those who didn't need Him, even though He knew they would never "know" Him.
For the Pharisees and Sadducees, and Scribes knew the words of God but they never recognized the Word of God.
There knew the scriptures and could recite them and perform the ceremonies and complete the actions they thought they had to take.
Yet they did not have a clue as to who the God of the Law was. They knew the law but not the God, not the intent of the law.
The law was not given for man to fulfill but for man to realize he could not do it.
The Law was given that God might be revealed by it, not reached, by it.
There must be a heart knowledge, not just a head knowledge.
