Num 11:31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
Num 11:32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
Num 11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
Num 11:34 And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
The children of Israel were eating manna from heaven every day. God sent them wafers of pure delight to eat every day and they were filled up with it. Then they got fed up with it.
We humans are a fickle people we are given blessings from above, we are fed, clothed, etc and soon we take it for granted. We forget our need and the moment of victory when we first received the blessings.
The children of Israel then asked for flesh, meat. They were no longer grateful for the supernatural blessings but sickened at the sight of it, at the thought of eating any more manna.
The Lord sent them quail to eat. He sent them a flood of Quail.
When reading this I see no mention of thanks being given. I see the people gathering but they are gathering as a joy because they don't have to eat "only" manna from heaven for their sustenance.
They had become de-sensitized to miraculous provision to the point that they are not even awed by the great events that happen for them from the hand of God.
Water from the rock enough for all the millions of them.
Manna from heaven.
The crossing of the Red Sea.
They had seen miracle after miracle yet they still got complacent.
The people of Israel received the flesh they asked for, but they lost the spiritual blessing they needed.
They had manna every day, food from God Himself every day. Blessings supernaturally received every day, and they became complacent.
How often are we like this? We see God move and bless yet we fail to acknowledge or give thanks. We fail to commend Him, praise Him.
How often do we get exactly what we want and pray for, only to lose the spiritual blessing because we are not grateful with what we have, where we are?
Sometimes God will answer with a yes even though He knows it may not be best for us because we need to learn a lesson.
Looking for a sign or wonder to see God's will? Be careful that you don't read into the circumstances surrounding you to fit your vision of what 'should be', mistaking His Will for you because you got what you wanted or thought you needed.
God the Father knows us and what we need. He knows what we want, but we don't always want what we need.
The children of Israel gained the physical but boy did they lose the spiritual. They took of the quail and before they could even chew God sent a plague, a curse upon them.
If you read the passage I listed above you see that God killed those that lusted. Those that were not grateful for the manna, and lusted after the flesh.
How clear a picture we see. All in all this is a very self-explanatory passage. One that lays it out clearly and concisely.
They had God's food, they were unhappy after a time. They complained and complained until God got angry, and Moses got angry.
How often are we like this?
We fail to see the hand of God in our lives because we have been so blessed.
We complain because we fail to see the full blessings and think we need more.
Or we are ungrateful for the daily little blessings and start taking them for granted.
The anger of the Lord was poured out because they had all they needed and wanted. They were not grateful for the blessings, cried out for more and got the wrath.
They had the spiritual blessings given to them, they were provided for. then they lusted. They desired the physical fulfillment.
This truly needs to be a warning to those among us who have the spiritual blessing, and our needs met yet we want more.
Always looking for just that little more. When is it enough?
