Why there are no do overs

Rom 3:25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

We all know our past, God knows our past. He has forgiven us of those things, but have we forgiven ourselves?

The true test of forgiveness is not what we forgive of others but what we can forgive ourselves for.

Many times in the past we have made mistakes, we have caused hurt to others with stupid mistakes, or intentional errors. We have caused people pain, we have rebelled against people or parents, spouses etc. At times in the past we have acted in anger, ignorance, or misguided intentions.

Later on we find out that we hurt them and in hindsight we realize that they were more important than whatever caused us to act or speak as we did.
Most times the affected folks forgive and we move on, many times never the same in our relationship but still a relationship.

However the true damage will never be fixed.
it is the damage that we have done to ourselves that as we get older we revisit and remember.
Have you ever wondered why you never remember the good deed but just the stupid stupid stuff you did?
Forgiving ourselves is the hardest thing we will ever do. No matter how much you think you have made peace it will still haunt you in the middle of a thought, in the quiet of the night, in the shower,
 any time your mind wanders,
Not every one of these things will be big. Some will be smal inconsequential actions, words, in-actions, regrets.

There is a reason why time travel doesn't happen.
If it did there would be no future.

Everyone would be so busy going back and redoing every little thing that we think was wrong.
The future is made up of the past and present.
the past has made us who we are.
The present is the time we are given to grow from the past and perfect the future.

Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Rom 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rom 8:30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

The first verse is over used and in many cases mis-used.
This does not mean every little thing and situation is going to turm out good.
It means that every little situation and thing in our life will be used as we grow to make us into the man or woman that God knows we will be.
We take these lessons we learn and grow from them.
They are a composite in the tapestry of our life that He is weaving.

There are no do overs in this life. You can not travel back in time to your 17th year, to your 20th year or to any other time to redo what you think might make your life better.
You can not re write history.
However you can write the future by learning from the tough lessons you learned.

Php_4:11  Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

We have to forgive ourselves,
We have to learn to forget, we have to remember that we are who we are because of our past.

We must be content with who we are. Not who we were or what we did.
Do you really believe that stuff you did years ago define you?
We were all young and dumb at one time or another.
If God can forgive us, those we have wronged can forgive us, why can we not forgive ourselves?
