I have touched on this before but for some reason it has been on my mind again.
Many times at church we pray for the filling of the Spirit of God or for the Spirit to come among us.
Yet at the time that we accept Christ we get all the Spirit we will have. It is up to us to use that Spirit and to grow in the Spirit filled life.
We have so many advantages over the patriarchs of the Bible.
They had to wait for the Spirit to come upon them, they had to go to the man of God to hear the Word of God. They had to search out a prophet of God to speak to them. We have the Spirit of God with us every minute of every day. We have access to God like they never had.
They had personal relationships with Him like we do, but they did not have the Exhorter, the Comforter, The Spirit of Knowledge with them at all times like as we do.
Joh_14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Yet we use it far less than they did. Why is that?
I think possibly because we treat it as a metaphor instead of as a literal. We do not understand nor teach it as a literal power, we talk of it as an abstract instead of as a personal experience.
We have never understood the Spirit of God because we have modern medicine, technology, science that has taken it's place. We call His Work supernatural, because we have no experiential data to filter it through.
We say the Spirit of God came down when it is always right here. We say we experienced the moving of the Spirit in a revival when we have the opportunity of every day Spirit-filled moving in our life.
Samson, Saul had the Spirit leave them, something we never have to face in our Christian life.
Jdg_16:20 And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.
Saul did not even feel the Spirit of God leave Him he was so out of touch with the Will of God.
1Sa 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
We do not have to ever worry about the Spirit leaving us, we do however have to worry about quenching the Spirit, Not cultivating or growing the Spirit. We do have to worry about grieving the Spirit, marginalizing the Spirit making it of no effect.
The Spirit of God is an extension of our life. We have an everyday access to His Word that tells us what to do, how to do it. We have the Word of God laying around untapped, unused. Many have it laying there waiting for someone to see it with a notebook and pen for a prop.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
We treat the Word of God and the Spirit of God as an otherworldly thing that we must pray and weep and Beg for when it is always there with us waiting to be used.
God does not treat people differently, He gives everyone the same opportunities and results if they are but properly cultivated.
I do not mean the 'faith healing" of the greedy money making ilk. I mean a true use of the Spirit of God.
There are those who would put on a show with collusion and cheap theatrics to profit from the name of God without knowing the true power of the Spirit.
Those who would "slay in the Spirit" without a shred of God's power behind it. Those that would sell you ocean front property in Arizona while not caring about the aftershock of their absurdity as long as they make a buck.
There is the Spirit filled life that can move mountains, that can empower you to speak with the authority of God, the Spirit Filled life that can assure you of the victory.
The Spirit of God is a mighty thing, one that works in us and through us to further the Will of God that all should come to repentance. That none should perish but for all to come to a saving knowledge of Christ and eternal life with Christ our king.
Our Victories should be the furtherance of His Will. The power of God in our life should be so manifested as to draw all men unto Him. The Spirit Filled life should be a beacon of light to all men women and children to draw them to the savior. not a toy to be used to make money.
Not the sham theology that all should be wealthy healthy and rich. That theology is straight from the pit of hell and leads men astray.
It has caused more damage than atheism ever could. It gives a false hope a false sense of security.
My God has promised to never leave or forsake me, not to keep me from getting sick or dying. He never promised me a rolls-royce and a mansion here on this earth.
My mansion awaits on the other side.
My rewards may come in some small fashion here upon this earth but they are laying up in greater measure in Heaven than we can possibly understand here on this planet, here in this life.
I do not want to convey that God does not care about us here, But He cares more for our soul than the car we drive. He cares more for our eternal Security than for our house here.
He cares more for your health spiritually than for a cold or flu bout we might have here.
It is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgement.
We shall all die if the Lord tarries.\
All that matters is the Work we do for Him. Believe it or not the true child of God has Him to help us do that work.
Just as He died as The sacrifice for our sin, He gives us the way to do His Work by using His Spirit.
How much more does He have to do?
1Jn 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
1Jn 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
We have an unction from God that guides us, Directs us, tells us the difference between right and wrong.
We have The Holy Spirit.
Grow in His power, learn from His presence, and the Spirit filled life can be yours.
