My wife and I went to dinner the other night. As we were there there was a storm moving through. On the way home we ran across 2 big heavy trash cans cans in the middle of The road. Several vehicles in front of me weaved through and went on. I stopped and pulled the trash cans out of the road, in full disclosure I did not pick up the trash strewn about. The homeowner was coming out with an umbrella so I left that for them. I was worried about other vehicles trying to stop on the wet road and causing an accident.
Metaphorically I went straight to the winds of strife in our life and the obstacles that will be placed in our way.
Why doesn't God remove these obstacles for us? why are they there?
Why does He allow us to encounter obstacles that can trip us up?
Paul was caught up to the third heaven, and he heard and saw things that were not for man to speak of.
Paul knew that left to his own devices his pride would get the better of him so there was a thorn in the flesh given to him.
2Co 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
2Co 12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Paul knew that his thorn was for God's Glory.
Many times left to our own thoughts and our own supposed prowess we would acclaim our achievements and our stature as accomplishments of us, not of God.
God places things or allows things to come into our lives and affect us so that we will rely on Him. That ALL would know that He is God.
Sickness, poverty, injury, death of a loved one all of these things can be used by God to chasten us.
The ultimate goal of God is to make us reliant on Him and less on us. To make us lean on Him His Grace, His Mercy, His Providence.
God does things in His way and in His time so that He may have the Glory.
You may not have financial success because it would pull you from Him.
You may not be healthy because that might keep you from serving Him.
You may not be where or what you think you should be because you can't handle it.
God in His infinite wisdom knows what you can bear, and He will give you no more than you can bear.
That doesn't just apply to troubles that applies to all situations.
Roadblocks, debris on the path of life are all there for a reason.
Look for His purpose during the trials and tribulations.
Is it to help you grow?
Is it to help you help others grow?
Is it to chasten you?
Is it to teach reliance on Him?
