I have prayed amiss

I have been praying wrong for years. I have been praying for God to save a man because I didn't want him in Hell. I have prayed from mine own guilt and selfishness. Not for the Glory and Power of God to be manifested.
I was wrong! I have been standing in the way of God's work because I have been "me, i, mine" not "Yours, You".
As I was driving to work listening to the radio the preacher spoke of Charles Finney and a lady talking. I don't remember all the details but I remember the pain and horror I felt, knowing all those years praying pleading were wasted because I prayed wrong. I stood in the way. I sinned.
As you can imagine this hit me like a ton of bricks. I was against the Word of God, intentional or not. I sinned.
Here we are 16 hours later and I am still mortified by this thought. How dare I presume to ask God to do me a favor, how dare I presume to go before Him unprepared. All those years of begging and pleading was for me. Not for Him and His Glory.

I have wrote on prayer, studied it and we know it is the heart intent. I had my heart in the wrong place. Asking for the wrong reasons. The right result but the wrong reasons. It matters.
I have begged God all day to forgive me, set my heart right, and get me on the right track.
It is not wrong for us to want to keep folks out of hell. That's our calling. It isn't wrong to pray for them. As long as it is God who gets the glory at a sinner's salvation, the reason for the repentant heart. Not where we can boast or brag about what we did to lead them to the Lord.
Our testimony, God's Word, and the Holy Spirit can all be part of the equation but we must remove ourselves from the equation. There is nothing we can do to save anyone. NOTHING.

Joh 15:5  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6  If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Joh 15:7  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Joh 15:8  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

If we abide in Him and He in us we can get our prayers answered. We will ask of Him from a desire based on His will His Glory and it shall be done. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But when we are in His Will we will pray in His power and it shall be done. When we are in Him and His Will our wants will be the same as His.
God grant me the wisdom to know how to pray.
