Why are you in church?
What are you doing day in and day out with the information, the blessings, the guidance of the Spirit you receive every time you sit in the pew at church?
Your pastors, Sunday School teachers are instructing you in righteousness, feeding your spiritual man. So what are you doing with it?
Are you taking the preaching and teaching and sitting on it? Are you spreading the Word or the Spirit? Or are you relegating it to the task complete box and forgetting it almost as soon as you hit your front door?
Do you take your spiritual blessings and then selfishly fail to pass them on to others so they too can be blessed? Are you stealing someone else's blessing? Are you hoarding it all for yourself? Or perhaps you are in church listening to the preacher and letting it go in one ear and out the other? Perhaps this is your good deed for the week - showing up for church and letting people see you.
Don't be the one who is in church on Sunday's praying weeping and wailing and then park your spiritual man at the door on your way out.
The abortion crowd who professes faith in Christ (or calls themselves Christians), the homosexuals, the drunkards, the adulterers these are showing their lack of Christ-likeness. We will all sin and fall, but God gave us a way out called repentance and forgiveness. But those who fail to repent from their sins, who fail to exemplify Christ in their actions and lives, these people must re-examine their hearts to truly see if they know Christ or if they just know OF Christ.
If that is your idea of Christianity then perhaps you need to re-think your salvation experience. No one except you and Christ know the truth of your eternal soul's destination. But do not deceive yourself into believing 'I am a good person I won't go to Hell'. There is one way to Heaven that is Christ Jesus. He is the Son of God who died for you. If you have not believed on Him, called on His name to save you, repented of your sins and started living for Him through His power, then chances are pretty good you are not going to Heaven.
Christianity is named so for followers of Christ. FOLLOWERS. Not lip service, not good deed do-ers, not the whole talk a good game but actions fail to back it up crowd.
In the great commission Christ did not say Send missionaries to all the Earth. He said "go ye". He did not say wait on the pastor, the teacher, the music leader etc... He said "go ye".
Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
This to say that we are all to be missionaries, the mission field begins right outside your front door. We all are commanded to teach, whether through words, or example we are to be the light shining on a hill.
So when you look in a mirror, do some introspection and ask yourself "Why am I in church".
If the answer is so the pastor doesn't say something, or my mom will be sad, or I am too important they would miss me or some other such nonsense then please re-examine your heart.
If you are there to recharge your batteries, to prepare yourself for the coming week and get fresh food to share with a lost and dying world, then you are on the right track.
Why are you in church? Finding the truth (if you are truthful with yourself) might just surprise you. It might revitalize you. It might scare you. It might just save your soul.
But whatever answer you find on your introspection make sure it is the RIGHT answer.
Then 'go ye'.
