Jesus - Our First resort should be Him

The other night I had a very realistic and ,quite frankly, disturbing dream. Generally I don't get skittish or un-nerved but this one did it to me.

Basically I was in bed and from the side of the bed there was a figure that jumped on me and wrapped me tight. Too tight, almost squeezing the breath out of me, I couldn't speak or move it was just tightening it's hold on me to the point it was all I could do to call on the name of the Lord Jesus. Once I called on Jesus ,even in the whisper that was all I could muster,  I woke. I was coiled tightly and out of breath.  Now I realize this was (most likely) a dream but it was a very disturbing dream and I spent a lot of time recreating and praying to find out why I was under attack. Whether He was trying to tell me something or if I was under fire from the other side. I do not believe in ghosts, zombies, vampires or any other creepy crawlies. BUT I do believe Satan has an army and his goal is to try to subvert and defeat God's people.

Ephesians 6:11-13

King James Version (KJV)
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Now you might ask why I do not believe in ghosts, which is a fair question. When Christ was on the cross He had interaction with the two thieves dying beside Him. The first thief ridiculed Him whereas the second thief recognized Christ.

Luke 23:42-44

King James Version (KJV)
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

Secondly, in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man Christ tells us thatdeath was instantaneous translation of the Souls to heaven or hell.

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

So the dying thief is told that TODAY you will be with me. Then the rich man closed his eyes in death and opened them in hell.
This means that there are no ghosts left behind.  Further in the New Testament Paul speaks of the translation from life to death.

2 Corinthians 5:7-9

King James Version (KJV)
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

Now of course this did not reassure me as to what had been in my dream (if it was a dream).

However, I did pray a lot to find out what I had done to draw that kind of attack on me if it was real. Who am I O Lord that thou art mindful of me?  I am not Job, nor am I Peter or Paul or David or any of the patriarchs. I know they were just men but they were far more righteous than me. Anyone can be attacked through doubt, fear, insecurity, etc... this is why Peter warns us:
We are to be vigilant because our adversary the devil walketh about seeking whom he may devour.

Many in this day and time will scoff at the notion of a devil let alone THE devil, But we all know there is a devil out there working against us. Christ was tempted of him. Peter was influenced by the devil. Eve was tempted. God and satan had daily talks in heaven concerning Job.

We also know that satan loses in the end and We through Christ shall prevail. However, satan has been given authority over this earth and all contained there-in. Of course he can not get to those who are in God's hands except the Heavenly Father gives him permission. Satan was allowed to take all Job's wealth, his 7 children, and his health. But he was not allowed to take Job's life. God only has that authority.  Job was attacked for one reason and one reason only: God allowed it to prove Job's faithfulness. Job was so upright in his ways he sacrificed extra daily in case there were sins his kids or family committed he wasn't aware of.

I am not that righteous, It is not said of me that 'there is none as just as he'. But I can say that if satan is attacking me I am doing something right. After all, satan has no reason to notice anyone unless they are actively countering his work and making a difference for Christ and God. If that is the case I shall weather the attack and call on Christ when it happens. I can not withstand the wiles of the devil But HE can.

The saved person who can call on the name of the Lord and expect help is truly rich. We never have to stand or fight alone. We have the Blessed name of Christ to call on. This is His fight, Let Him aid you in times of trouble and trial. Call on the name of the Lord.
